Jules-Joseph Lefebvre
Jules-Joseph Lefebvre was a prominent 19th-century French academic painter, born in Tournan-en-Brie in 1836. A winner of the prestigious Prix de Rome, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and became widely celebrated for his idealized figural compositions, particularly his nudes and portraits of women rendered in a refined, luminous style.
Lefebvre taught at the Académie Julian, where he influenced a generation of international students, and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, winning numerous medals. His technically polished canvases are held in major museum collections across France and Europe.
