Georges Seurat
Georges Seurat was a French Post-Impressionist painter born in Paris in 1859, celebrated as the founder of Pointillism and the Neo-Impressionist movement. His meticulously scientific approach to colour and light led him to develop the technique of applying tiny, distinct dots of pure colour to the canvas, allowing the viewer's eye to blend them optically from a distance.
Seurat's most iconic work, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte (1884–1886), is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of 19th-century art and a landmark in the history of modern painting. His works are held in collections at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, and the National Gallery in London.
