Jan Adam Kruseman was a prominent Dutch portrait painter of the early 19th century, born in Haarlem in 1804. A student of the leading portraitists of his era, Kruseman became one of the most celebrated academic painters in the Netherlands, known for his refined likenesses of royalty, aristocracy, and the Dutch intellectual elite.
