Johannes Vermeer
Johannes Vermeer was a Dutch Golden Age painter born in Delft around 1632, celebrated for his extraordinarily luminous depictions of domestic interiors and everyday life. Alongside Rembrandt and Frans Hals, Vermeer is considered one of the greatest masters of Dutch 17th-century painting, renowned above all for his exquisite handling of light.
His paintings, including Girl with a Pearl Earring (c.1665) and The Milkmaid (c.1657–1658), are among the most admired works in Western art history. Vermeer produced a relatively small body of work — around 34–36 paintings — now held in major museums including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Mauritshuis in The Hague, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
