Paul Chabas
Paul Chabas was a French academic painter born in Nantes in 1869, best known for his luminous paintings of the human figure in natural settings, particularly his celebrated depictions of bathers in alpine and coastal landscapes. A recipient of the Prix de Rome and a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, Chabas was one of the most acclaimed academic painters of his generation.
His most famous painting, September Morn (1911), became a cultural sensation when it was reproduced widely and sparked a significant public debate, making Chabas's name known far beyond art circles. His works are held in major French museum collections.
