Camille Pissarro
Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French Impressionist painter born in 1830 on the island of Saint Thomas in the Danish West Indies. Often called the "father of Impressionism," he was the only artist to exhibit in all eight of the landmark Impressionist exhibitions in Paris, and was a central mentor to fellow painters including Cézanne, Gauguin, and van Gogh.
Pissarro painted primarily landscapes, rural scenes, and Parisian cityscapes, capturing the play of light across the seasons with a warm and enduring sensitivity. His works are held in the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the National Gallery in London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
